They/Them /Sara Dillon

You refuse to use my pronouns,
And I’m not really sure why.
I’ve heard so many excuses at this point
That I’m convinced pigs can fly.

I don’t care if you understand;
I don’t expect you to explain.
I’m asking you to show me respect,
But I think I melted your brain.

Think of it like religion
Not everyones’ is the same.
They’re all vastly different
With a hundred different names.

I get that change is scary
And learning can be hard.
It takes time and effort,
A lot more than you’d put into a postcard.

If it’s really that difficult,
And, you’re not up for the task
Then, feel free to leave,
But this is what I ask:

That you think about your life,
How much time you have left,
And about whether
Your heart is bereft.
