a liar’s testament/Trenton Bebermeier

the ladle drowns in chuckling ice,
the party’s dying down.
I hear a voice rife with sorrow,
as the hostess spins her gown.
         the ears are turned,
         the eyes are cold,
         the sun’s a blazing cloud,
but her beauty can’t be seen that easy,
the grackle sings too loud.
         oh, much too loud.

a wooden cross is slathered in gold,
as the jesuits all arrive.
I’ve got to do my duty dear,
I’ll see you tonight.
we see the traces of oxen
         in those we crucify,
but that which brought the jesuits,
how could we have known it was I.
         oh, it was I...

oh, vagabonds! oh, mortal doves.
oh, huntresses, clad in hunting gloves.
oh, summer dunes, oh, new york news
and oh,
a lullaby…
