poetry class/Grace Knudsen

“describe a sensory image”
keyboard taps
fluorescent lights
mask pressing against my mouth
the pilly fabric is scraping at my chin

dad used to leave loose fabric laying around when he would sew
gramma would hem my prom dresses and give me the fabric back
i brought colin a swatch of it so he could match the colors
he couldn’t make out the purple in the picture

it was his birthday the other day
wish I could’ve been there
sent him a text
but today I’m in class
trying to prove I’m a good writer
and wanting to pull this mask off my face
and take a naked breath
