stay/Will Fischer

it wasn’t like electricity zapping
or two magnets snapping together
yet it wasn’t as unexpected
as a hurricane destroying a clear day

it didn’t strike me like lightning
or give me butterflies
i didn’t feel like i was falling
but it crept up on me

instead, i felt at Home
not like i was lost in the woods
as if i was stranded, or abandoned
it wasn’t like i was in a sea of strange faces

and when it ended
it didn’t ache or sting
like alcohol on a fresh incision
it wasn’t as painful as breaking a bone

You didn’t act like i was invisible
things weren’t as right as rain
but we were both still okay
You made sure of that

You didn’t disappear
like a gust of wind
leaving as soon as it came
instead,
You Stayed

Will Fischer is a graduating senior with a double major in Theatre Studies and English. This is his first (and final) time being published in Graphos. After graduation he’ll be moving to Chicago to pursue a career that hopefully incorporates both majors.
