Take Me Back/Chris Cornelius

Take me back to a place and time when the grass was short, and I could see through the woods in the backyard. The cows would keep the trees trimmed and the grass cut. The cows were tame, and the kids could play all day, in the woods behind the house.  Skipping stones and hopping over the small windy stream that went to a small pond. Here the cows could drink and step in the mud. Remember the time when I tried to ride that little black pony without a saddle? It did not end good. It was not like riding one of the pet cows. No sir. I remember Snowball and Black-eyed Susan. Snowball was the biggest, friendliest pet a six year old could have. She let me take naps on her back when she was laying down or taking a walk.  She was white as snow, with small black patches of hair, like small black balls everywhere.  I guess that’s how she got her name. Snowball.  When she was hungry for some leaves, she would walk me to a couple of trees. I could bend the branches for her to eat some of those tasty leaves. Take me back to the day when we would make hay and still have a lot of day for work and play. Take me back to this place and time, that has been left behind in the back of my mind.
