A Brand New Page/Annika Morschauser

With a white page staring at you,
it’s easy to draw a blank when it comes time
to put something on it.
My brain struggles with sifting through all of my
“great ideas”
to find one I actually want to write about.
I type a sentence,
shrug at it,
and keep on going because sometimes that’s the best I can do.
In a blink of an eye, I’m five pages deep
in a whole lot of words that don’t quite make sense together.
There’s just so many different options and subplots
that it’s difficult to find the write path.
There are no rules, as you can see,
but sometimes that’s what holds me back,
a brand new page with too much going on
inside my head.

Annika is part of the class of 2026 at St. Norbert College. She’s working on her major in creative writing as well as a minor in studio art. While she’s not studying she enjoys reading, writing, drawing, journaling, listening to music, and watching movies or TV shows.
