bubble sun/Trenton Bebermeier

she was floating over the sidewalk,
a bubble in sunset tea.
swirls of grace glanced her eyes
and suffocated as she smiled.

her hair felt hot when my hand ran through,
as its
frizzy brown ate up the fading sunlight,
boiling each strand
into hues of
sandy, dim blonde.

my head was in agony in the heat,
and
sounds of overhead fires,
shoes against gritty concrete,
distant train tracks clicking,
and cars on the avenue
were all accentuated by the clock.

dizzy
and dizzying…

until she tugged on my hand with a giggle
(resounding from the back of the throat)
and i stumbled with her under the shady
awning of a lively bar.

she hugged me there,
and heat swirled under my skin.

clinks of glass
melting with
a cacophony of conversations
were accompanied by a drowning
jukebox,
which filled gaps in my ears.

i held her head against me.
when a scraggly dog with a flippant tongue
trotted past,
she massaged my chest with a laugh.
